Fourth of July is around the corner and I see fireworks stand everywhere. My neighbors are starting out early with their fireworks. Fourth of July is more than just fireworks, it’s to celebrate Independence day and we are lucky to have this opportunity to celebrate such occasion.
What are your plans? Barbecue at your backyard? Will you watch the fireworks? It’s always fun to watch the fireworks. Although I don’t know if that’s something we can do this year. It normally gets really cold by the time fireworks starts from where I live and I’m not sure it’s good for my son to be out that late.
One of my most memorable Fourth of July was spent in Atlanta, Georgia. I spent the summer with my uncle to help out with his concession business. He lives in Pensacola, Florida and we drove to Atlanta for the Fourth of July event they attend every year. It was my first job EVER. I was sixteen and never had a real job. Their day started at four O Clock in the morning to set up their tent and equipment for their food stand and ended at ten pm.
My job was to help my cousin sell lemonade and it was fun. Especially when it’s 100 degrees and people were thirsty. People were just lining up to buy from their stand. Towards the afternoon, I was tired and my feet were hurting. I wanted to go home and sleep, but the day was not over. Thankfully, there was a firework show scheduled and people were finding their spots to watch. Customers coming to our stand was slowing down and I was able to sit and watch the fireworks. We had the best view of the lake where the fireworks took place.
Sitting on the empty cooler and watching the fireworks show made my painful feet well worth it. Once the show was over, people were leaving and we had to clean the area. I was done and could not move anymore. That’s why I have too much respect to those vendors at fair parks. Their job is not easy and they have to deal with different kinds of people of all day long.
I will always remember that Fourth of July vividly. Now my Fourth of July will probably be staying home and watch some reruns. Who doesn’t want to relax and drink some hot tea? That to me is why I am thankful to have Independence Day. I am given the chance to choose how to live my life.
