I want to start by saying, you can start a blog 100% free! This post is made for aspiring bloggers who want to earn money blogging. Monetizing a blog requires investment. Meaning you have to buy and own your website so you can do whatever you want to do on your site. It’s yours and you have the full power of what goes in and out of your blog post.
Prior to starting my own blog, I had zero idea of what blogging was. I read and follow other bloggers, but I did not know they were called “bloggers.” My sister gave me the idea, when I was venting about how difficult it was for me to find a JOB! I was desperate and wanted to have extra income. Her words were “why don’t you start a blog?” I laughed at her idea and answered “me?! Blog? Are you serious? You know I got a D on my english 101 class!!”
She immediately responded with “you can use pictures or start a cooking blog featuring recipes you’ve tried and go from there.” I totally ignored her idea and went on applying for jobs. During this time I was obsessing with Rachel Parcell. A fashion blogger who now owns a very successful clothing line named after herself. Then it hit me, why not start a blog, just what my sister suggested.
I turned to Pinterest and searched how to start a blog. Many pins popped up and I clicked and saved most of them. It took me a month or so reading and obsessing about blogging to finally commit and start a blog. At first, I wanted to start a free blog site and if it grows to be successful then I can buy my own site, but many seasoned bloggers do not recommend that idea and now I understand why.
It will be hard for me to monetize my blog if I don’t own it. Many sponsors and brands will not see me as a serious business partner. Al though I know this is debatable, I wanted to start the right way and that is to buy my own site!
Lucky for me my husband is very supportive. The moment I shared this idea with him, he did not question and backed me up 100%. So this is how it all started. Below are the screen shots I took to show you the steps on how to start your blog.
Once you paid and created your site which will probably take you less than ten minutes. That’s when the real work happens and I mean you gotta work work work! I’m not scaring you, I’m simply preparing you on what to expect after. Remember this is your business and just like any other business you have to plant, water, fertilize, trim and repeat until your plant is mature and thrives on it’s own.
